A Day on College Hill at Brown University

Every April, Brown’s Admissions Office invites admitted students to a two-day overnight stay on the campus. ADOCH gives the students a chance to discover what Brown has to offer the students in the classroom and on campus. For two days, the students are entertained, informed and fed — pizza and ice cream help to deliver [...]

Halloween Midnight Organ Recital at Brown
See the show.
In one of the school’s most-loved traditions, Brown University organist Mark Steinbach performs his annual Halloween organ recital on the world’s largest Hutchings-Votey pipe organ in Sayles Hall. At midnight, students jam the old gym floor to listen to Steinbach’s Halloween-appropriate selections.
Another Christopher Lydon Sighting

I heard THE VOICE again last night. He had his back to me, but I knew it was him.
Free (old) Nikon (film) Camera
While cleaning old gear out of the photo closet the other day, way in the back, I found my old beat-to-hell-but-still-works-perfectly Nikon F4. As good and fair as the folks at usedcamerabuyer.com can be, I knew I couldn’t sell this old camera body for more than 20 bucks.
And while I’m not really the sentimental [...]
Stimulus Package lives!

Tonight, while googling around trying to figure out why Google refuses to crawl my pages, I ran across a mostly food blog by former Projo colleague, Ben Gedan. Ben had posted Stimulus Package, a fun little video David DelPoio and I put together last spring. Funny to run into it out there in blogland, but [...]
Video: Providence diner added to National Register. Or, is it just bacon porn?

If you’re into history:
The Liberty Elm, a/k/a, the Central Diner, has been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The 1947 Worcester Lunch Car Diner is one of about 90 remaining diners of this style. The Central Diner moved from downtown Providence to Elmwood Avenue in 1953. After a series of owners and names, [...]
Providence diner video is history!

Whew! That was easy.
Always a lot to learn with a new computer and software. Can you really not convert mp4s to flvs? Spending all day (and night) looking at bacon and eggs is killing me. I just might have to go get breakfast.
Tavis Smiley

Tavis Smiley’s delivery of the annual MLK lecture is one of those Brown events that I feel lucky to have attended. Mr. Smiley is smart — wicked smaht — provocative and insightful. He challenged listeners, black and white or whatever, to reconsider how each one of us (Mr. Obama included) thinks about how we live [...]
Providence diner video in the works
Congratulations to the nice people (Tink, Erica & Carol) at the historic Liberty Elm Diner on Elmwood Ave. in Providence. The funky little diner was recently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 1947 Worcester Lunch Car Company diner first opened for business as the Central Diner in downtown Providence near the Providence Journal. The diner [...]
